Seaweed Art Cards
  • Back-To-School Craft Projects

It is time to go back to school. Help your child get ready for the big day with these fun projects.

     Decoupaged School Supply Box

     You will need:

    Cigar or cardboard candy box

Sunday comics, baseball or Pokemon cards

    Modge-podge or white Elmer’s glue

    Pie pan

    Scissors

    Large paint brush

Have your child cut out shapes from the comic books or choose some of his favorite collectible cards. Pour some of the Modge-podge or glue into the pie pan and a little water. Mix together. Dip the shapes into the glue mixture and stick them onto the box. Continue until box is covered. It is OK to overlap the designs a little. When the box is dry, paint the shapes with an additional coat of glue. Fill the box with assorted school supplies.

     Painted Lunch Bag

This project works best with the soft cloth insulated lunch bags that are available at drug and grocery stores.

     You will need:

    Above mentioned lunch tote

    Fabric paint or colored glue

Assorted decorations like sequins, jewels or beads

Cover your work space with newspaper and set out the glue and decorations. Let your child use her imagination to design and decorate her own personalized lunch bag.

     Book Covers

    You will need:

    Brown paper bags

Sunday comics, baseball or Pokemon cards

    Stickers

    Glue or tape

    Clear, self-adhesive paper (optional)

Cut along the side seam of the brown  paper bag to remove the bottom of the bag. Lay the bag flat on the table. If there is any printing on the bag make sure it is  facing up. Place the book in the center of the bag. Fold the top and bottom of the bag inward so that it matches up with the height of the book you are covering. Fold the top of the bag over the book so that the front and back covers match. Trim the edges to about 5 inches beyond the edge of the book. Tuck the two ends inside the front and back covers of the book and then slip the books covers inside the folds.

It is time for your child to decorate the cover using whatever materials she chooses. For extra durability you can enforce the cover with clear, self-adhesive paper.
